I’m thrilled about my newfound passion for space biology! Presently, I am leading a Parkinson’s disease subgroup within the Multi-Omics AWG group. Our primary focus centers on the analysis of Genelab’s open space-flown and astronaut datasets, comparing them with datasets sourced from the MJFF PPMI database. Of particular interest to me is delving into the impact of spaceflight stressors on the brain’s mitochondria. Given the pivotal role mitochondria play in cellular energy production and overall neuronal health, comprehending how space travel influences brain function holds significant importance. Such investigations could offer invaluable insights into potential neurological repercussions of spaceflight and contribute to formulating strategies to safeguard astronaut well-being during prolonged missions beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Moreover, the exploration of how spaceflight stressors affect mitochondrial function in the brain may pave the way for innovative therapeutic approaches for Parkinson’s disease patients.
