This is very interesting, I appreciate the introduction today, happy to see if we can help with his.

Ok, our first meeting will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 10 am PST/12 noon CST/1pm EST. Dr. Erik Antonsen will be joining us to give a special presentation on the Renal DAG to get us all oriented to it and what it tells us. Dr. Antonsen is the former chair of the NASA Human System Risk Board, and helped facilitate the creation of the initial set of Human System Risk DAGs. He also completed an update on the Renal Stone risk last year, which gives us a leg up on this project, as we can start from where he left off. Find that document here: Evidence Report: Risk of Renal Stone Formation - NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

I will getting this onto the calendar shortly, and those of you in this thread should expect to get an invite and meeting link soon.

I’m looking forward to kicking this effort off and hope you all can make it!

@ALSDAawg

The top post in this thread also has more useful DAG links

I assume a report on this project will be given at the monthly ALSDA AWG mtg on the 21st

Also pinging @keith.siew on if we can provide assistance on data submission

Hello all - thank you to those who attended the Renal DAG orientation yesterday. My apologies for the hard cut-off; that situation has been rectifed, and won’t happen in future meetings!

Our next meeting will be to understand next steps and get people working! Please fill out this Doodle with your preferred meeting times:

Looking foward to getting this going!

Hi @robert.j.reynolds-2 :grinning: Thanks for the update! I already filled out the Doodle last week and was wondering if there’s a set date for the next meeting. Looking forward to hearing more!
All the Best

Hi Britania - and everyone else – not many completed the Doodle, so it didn’t get scheduled. This week is NASA’s HRP IWS here in Houston, which will consume my time. I’m going to reapproach how we do this, in that I will have an asynchronous activity for everyone who wants to do it before our next meeting. Stay tuned!

Hope to see some of your at Ryan’s meetup at IWS!

Hi @robert.j.reynolds-2 .Thanks for the update! :slightly_smiling_face:.An asynchronous activity sounds like a great idea. Let me know if I can help or prepare in any way.Have a good time at NASA’s HRP IWS
All the best !

Hi Team,

As promisted, the asynchronous activity is here: ALSDA-AWG DAG Validation Project: Renal Stone Formation

This survey asks you to consider a series of uncondiional independencies, or variables that, if the DAG is correct, should always be independent of one another. There are deatiled instructions in the survey, so please feel free to share this with colleagues outside of the AWG.

I will be collecting responses over the next few weeks, and would like to share data at the next AWG meeting, so please try to respond as soon as you can.

Otherwise, be on the lookout for the next round of activities in this project. On deck will be the review of the Renal Risk evidence report and identification of the opportunities to extend that work.

Dear Robert, I circulated the survey to some of our renal stone specialist urologists. One of them is particularly keen to contribute but found the survey difficult to navigate as someone who is relatively new to spaceflight but has spent his whole career working with renal stones. Are you able to send me your email so that he can reach out directly? Or is there another way he can contribute? Sincerely, Lisa

Hi Robert. I enjoyed your original description of the DAGS “The ‘DAGs’ capture the relationships in nodes and edges between: space hazards, biological responses, physiological impacts, clinical outcomes, mission impacts”. Something in this struck a chord and wondering if their is any possibility of joing the group and how my more non traditional skills could be of any possible help. @robert.j.reynolds-2

Hello, I am interested in this project, too. I hope there is still time for me to join.

Thanks,
