Is there a map which shows which regolith simulant best represents each part of the moon?
Well…now there is! We used data from the Lunar Prospector Gamma Ray Spectrometer to map which lunar simulant best corresponds to each 2 x 2 degree tile on the Moon. We proposed an Aitchison-based compositional framework to determine simulant closeness and propagated LPGRS error in a Monte Carlo analysis to determine the robustness of simulant assignments. If you plan on using simulants, you should look to see where on the moon they may work best!
