NASA Summer Internship Opportunity: Open Science Impact
Exciting news! NASA is offering an in-person summer internship opportunity at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., for students interested in advancing open science and evaluating its impact on research and discovery. The Open Science Impact internship is hosted by NASA’s Office of the Chief Science Data Officer and offered through the agency’s Office of STEM Engagement.
This project provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to work alongside a NASA mentor on efforts that assess how open science practices, including open data, open-source software, and transparent research workflows, accelerate scientific discovery and broaden participation in science. Interns will contribute to real-world analyses that help strengthen NASA’s commitment to accessible, reproducible, and collaborative science.
Ideal candidates are undergraduate or graduate students studying science, data science, information science, public policy, communications, or related disciplines who are interested in measuring and communicating research impact in a mission-driven environment.
Interested applicants can review full details, eligibility requirements, and submit applications through February 27, 2026, using the NASA STEM Gateway platform.
