Heads up for a same-day event (about to begin in 5mins).
NASA SMD Associate Administrator Dr. Nicola “Nicky” Fox and other NASA Science leaders host a virtual town hall today, Monday Oct 26, 2–3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m.–12 p.m. PT) on the new Competition Model 2.0 (CM2.0), SMD’s overhaul of how missions get proposed, reviewed, and selected.
The short version from Fox’s letter: compete on the science first. Step 1 proposals drop the detailed engineering, cost, and implementation material, and the selection timeline shrinks by up to 40–45% across mission classes (Discovery, New Frontiers, Astro-Probes, MIDEX, Earth Explorer, SMEX, Missions of Opportunity, and more). Changes roll out in stages with community input along the way.

Can’t make it? NASA will surely post a recording after the event. If you attend, drop your takeaways below, especially anything relevant to BPS (Biological and Physical Sciences) and space biology proposals. ![]()
