I only met Nate once at ASGSR AWG pre-conference in 2023 in DC. It was my first time presenting to the wider AWG, I was a bit stressed - I had just started a new job, had not slept well in months because I had a toddler, was getting over a cold, and had taken some cold meds that made me super drowsey, so I was a bit concerned about how I would come off in my half-conscious state. At some point after, Nate made a joke about how AI people were too serious or too exciting (sarcastically), and that gave me a good laugh. After that I was able to relax and enjoy the conference. I had a chance to converse with him during and after a breakout session. He seemed like a really great guy and a great mentor who was passionate about what he does. May he rest in peace.
