Hello Hardware AWG Community,
Another Subgroup that will be started is the Data Standardization Subgroup! This topic has already been mentioned before (with lot of input from @luis.depombopuerta already!) so I am certain everyone knows the importance of the Data standardization initiative. We are seeking AWG members who are interested in contributing their expertise.
Purpose:
The Data standardization Subgroup will focus on improving the searchability and standards of all current and future instruments in the SPLASH database. Potential objectives involve ensuring standard units for all fields, determining the types of fields (Free-response, Dropdown, checkbox, etc), and potentially creating new fields or modifying/deleting existing fields.
Contribution:
Members will be invited to take a role in either:
- Researching standard units of a field (pH Range, humidity, temperature, etc)
- Determining how data should be formatted (Ranges, drop downs, free response, checkboxes)
- Reviewing existing fields and ensuring the fields are appropriate or can be removed/modified to improve standardization
- Creating descriptions/documentation for each parameter/value
- Deciding which parameters belong in which section
- Offering community oversight and subject‑matter feedback as SPLASH evolves
This is not an exhaustive list but just a broad overview of the goals of this sub group.
