Dear @FemaleReproAWG members,
We hope you’re having a great start to the new year! This Wednesday (January 28th, 3pm EST) will be our first meeting of 2026, and we’re very excited to kick things off with new projects and ideas for the year ahead.
Dr Begum Mathyk (@abegum, Female Repro AWG Lead) will be integrating educational talks into our monthly calls, so please join us in January to learn about the human menstrual cycle, hormone synthesis, and egg development.
We are also very happy to welcome Yasmin Azizbayli (@yaziz) from the University of Nottingham to present her project titled “Effects of Space Travel on Reproductive Health: Current Knowledge and Missing Gaps”
Talk Summary: “I will present recent findings and key reference papers that summarize what they currently know and what remains to be discovered. I will also discuss the DOHaD theory regarding the impact of environmental toxins on reproductive health and how these effects can span generations, linking this to spaceflight, radiation exposure, and other potential factors with similar consequences. Finally, I will outline the major gaps in the field and discuss potential approaches to address them.”
Research Summary/Interest: “My research interests focus on the impact of environmental exposures, including the space exposome, on reproductive health and development, with particular emphasis on intergenerational effects and the mechanisms underlying altered gonadal function. I am interested in characterising immune cell populations in adult and fetal mouse gonads and understanding shifts in immune cell proportions following exposure to the space exposome. I hold a BSc in Biomedical Science with a focus on developmental biology and a Master’s in Clinical Embryology from the University of Oxford, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Reproductive Immunology at the University of Nottingham.”
If you are a new @FemaleReproAWG member and would like to introduce yourself to the group, please email Begum (abegum@usf.edu) a one-slide summary ![]()
We look forward to seeing you all again very soon!
