FemaleRepro AWG Speaker/ RR-20 mission 9/24

Our speaker for the next @FemaleReproAWG is Dr. Lane Christenson from University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). The presentation title is “Impact of Spaceflight on Female Fertility and Subsequent Generations”. His laboratory investigates follicular development, ovulation, and luteal tissue formation, with implications for oocyte health, contraception, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and reproductive aging. Current NIH-funded work examines post-transcriptional gene regulation, including A-to-I RNA editing and circular RNA, in oocyte biology and follicular function. The group also leads a NASA-funded project on spaceflight and female reproduction. The RR-20 study have demonstrated a transgenerational effect across two generations and we are currently determining the combined impacts of inherited spaceflight effects (microgravity) with galactic cosmic radiation exposure in a recently completed June 2025 experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratories.

We are excited to learn more about the RR-20 mission next week.

The FemaleRepro AWG meeting link is available in the meeting calendar. We also welcome other AWGs interested in this and other related reproductive health topics.

September is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month. I will provide some information on these topics at 14:30 EST, just before our AWG meeting on Wed 9/24.
