Are you experienced in AI/ML and passionate about advancing scientific research? We’re looking for skilled individuals to help develop AI-driven Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs)—a tool that can support risk assessment that map biological events leading to adverse outcomes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGPKUf1ICOQ&t=13s).
What Are AOPs?
AOPs describe the sequence of biological events from molecular interactions to harmful outcomes like toxicity or disease . They are essential for predicting the effects of chemicals and environmental stressors on health and ecosystems but require complex data integration and modeling to develop accurately.
The Challenges of AOP Development
AOP development is challenging due to:
Data Complexity: Integrating large, heterogeneous datasets from various sources (e.g., experimental studies, omics data).
Biological Mechanisms: Understanding complex molecular and cellular pathways.
Uncertainty: Validating models and predicting outcomes under varying conditions.
How AI Can Help
AI and machine learning can address these challenges by:
Data Integration: Mining large datasets to identify patterns and key events in biological pathways.
Predictive Modeling: Building models to predict adverse outcomes based on exposure conditions.
Pathway Mapping: Refining AOP networks and identifying critical biomarkers for toxicity.
Uncertainty Management: Quantifying model uncertainty to improve predictions.

If you’re ready to contribute to AI-driven AOP development, we want to hear from you! Contact us to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
This is great! When you get an AWG sub-group together, let me know, so I can help coordinate.
When you determine a sub-group meeting schedule, I’d suggest sending 1) a traditional Outlook/Google mtg calendar invite AND 2) an AWG Forum-space calendar invite, to catch more AWG members who may not have heard, but are interested. Here are the instructions to create an AWG Forum-Calendar invite
I recently came across your opportunity to work on developing AI-driven Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) and found it incredibly intriguing. With my background in AI/ML and a passion for advancing scientific research, I would be very interested in contributing to this project.
Could you please let me know if this role is a paid opportunity?
Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to the possibility of working together.
Thank you for posting this opportunity. I would be interested in joining this project. I have experience in AI/ML and bioinformatics. I also have an interest in toxicology. Let me know how I can contribute.
I am very interested in joining this project on AI driven AOP development. I have a background with computational biology and bioinformatics with AI/ML experience, so please let me know how I can contribute to this project and get in contact with the team.
Unfortunately, this is not a paid opportunity. Your background is perfect, if you are still interested, we welcome you on board! I will reach out once we have a confirmed group of people to support the work.
