Looking for hackathon co-hosts

:police_car_light: Attention please :police_car_light:

My team and I are looking for astrobiology hackathon co-hosts. We’re trying to make it as accessible as possible. More information on the graphic. If this sounds interesting, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Might suggest you get your hackathon passed around the Astrobiology people part of COSPAR, AbSciCon, etc @alexa.sadier @fumimuratani @Fathi

Great idea, Ryan, thanks! Are there any groups/mailing lists where I could share it?

Alexa, Fumi, Fathi may have ideas. I don’t have SUPER strong connections to AbSciCon, or Astrobio

Oki, thank you anyway. Alexa, Fumi, Fathi, please let me know if you have any ideas!

Have some vague interest, but it would probably be good for you to provide rough dates (maybe even the month) for the event, and what the undergraduate students are expected to do - since that can help others decide whether it’ll fit their schedule.

Best,

Thank you for the reply Yenkai, here are some extra details:

What is HACK-4-SAGES?

HACK-4-SAGES is a 3-day hackathon aimed at bachelor/undergraduate students all around the world. Its theme is ā€œdigital twins in origins of lifeā€, but we may make it even broader by changing it to ā€œdigital twins in astrobiologyā€.

HACK-4-SAGES is a hybrid hackathon. It is hybrid in the following way: all the (pre-)hackathon activities, such as team choosing, talking to mentors, guest lectures, etc., will take place online, but we will also allow willing teams to work in-person at all the co-host institutions.

Who is behind HACK-4-SAGES?

The two main people behind the hackathon are Anna Lewkowicz (PhD student at ETH Zurich) and Dr. Mathias Beck (Scientific Programme Manager at the Centre for Origins and Life at ETH Zurich). We partnered up with Prof. Roland Riek (ETH Zurich), Prof. Dirk Schulze-Makuch (TU Berlin), Karolina Popowska (PhD student at Warsaw University of Technology), Łucja Kozicka, and Michał Poniatowski (both BSc students at Gdansk University of Technology), who are helping us in making HACK-4-SAGES become a reality.

What is the timeline?

Here is the general timeline of HACK-4-SAGES:

Q3 2025: Planning and student co-design

Q4 2025: Pre-qualification and webinar release

Q1 2026: Main hackathon

Q2 2026: Mentoring and refinement of selected projects

Q2 2026: Dissemination, toolkit publication, and internal reporting

Q3 2026: Selected teams’ final project presentation at the Origins Federation Conference 2026

Why are we looking for co-hosts?

We want to enable as many students as possible to participate in this hackathon. We believe that education knows no borders, and everyone should be able to participate in an event like this. Ideally, we want to have hubs on all the continents.

What will you have to do as a co-host?

As co-host, you will have to:

Book and provide room(s) for three days,

Arrange a small amount of funding to provide meals for participants (in Europe it’s around €15/meal/person/day, but it depends on your exact location, of course),

Advertise the hackathon in your local community.

- Ideally, arrange for a few mentors who will be available for onsite support during the event.

Generally, we do not expect it to be very time-consuming for co-hosts, as we are taking care of everything else.

If you wish to contribute to the event as a co-host or in case of any other questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to have you on board!

Dear Fateme,

Thank you for your interest in HACK-4-SAGES. Below, you can find more details on the initiative.

I don’t know them well, but may be worth emailing (separately) at Ames:

All of them may be interested in helping or could suggest people you are looking for

I am honored to support this amazing amazing community of scientists, students, and citizen scientists. What we have is something extremely rare and precious. It also has a stake in the trajectory of humanity and our ecosystem traveling, surviving, and living on the Moon and Mars :rocket: :green_heart:
