Microbiome for Controlled Environment

Contribute to this presentation!

On July 10 I will be presenting at the 2024 Joint CEA Workshop on Sustainable Development of Controlled Environment Agriculture. Here is a link to the workshop information: 2024 Joint CEA Workshop
I will be presenting in the session entitled: Pest and disease surveillance and management, and microbiome

I want everyone in our AWGs who has something to say on the topic to feel welcome to contribute to the presentation and be acknowledged.

I will find out on June 28 how much time I will have to present. I honestly do not know many details yet. But I did submit an abstract! I included it for your reference here and in the slide deck that I’m putting together. Anyone can comment on the presentation at this link. Abstract: The challenges associated with feeding our growing population over the next 50 years will require an exchange of information at a level beyond what we have encountered in human history. A major driver of innovation is the free exchange of ideas within a robust and vibrant community of diverse researchers. Science and Engineering supported by Open Data enables rapid innovation. NASA’s Open Science Data Repository (OSDR) and its Analysis Working Groups has become a source of innovation for the plant and microbial space biology community. OSDR has primarily focused on transcriptional responses of model organisms to space biology environments, aiming to generate biomarkers for stress detection and assisted breeding strategies. But we are expanding the scope of our repository every day as we work with subject matter experts to expand the types of assays we can host. OSDR contains more than 25 studies that look at microbiota. Several studies in the repository are specific to the microbiome of plants, plant pathogens, and food safety. This talk will share about the current data sets in OSDR, highlight the current efforts of Analysis Working Groups, and share how you can get involved.

@MicrobesAWG @PlantAWG might both be interested in this topic.

Since attending this conference falls outside of my regular job duties, I will be presenting as a private citizen who is a member of the Open Science Analysis Working Groups, and not in any official capacity as a plant data curator for the repository. I’m putting these slides together outside of my work hours and I am not permitted to use any slides that were previously prepared officially by anyone the OSDR team.

I really appreciate everyone who has contributed so far, through private messages and comments on the slide deck! Thank you!!!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this slide show for the microbiome for controlled environment presentation this week!
I have closed the file to edits and I am submitting the final version to the conference organizers at this time.
I’m looking forward to presenting this on July 10.
