Recommendations for journals / conferences (abstract-only or poster submissions)

Hello folks,

I am preparing an abstract-only submission titled
“Characterization of Soil and Rock-Inhabiting Fungi from Selected Localities with Potential Astrobiological Applications.” This is my undergraduate research.

I would be very grateful for recommendations of high-impact journals or research conferences that:

  • Accept abstract-only or poster submissions,

  • Reach audiences in astrobiology, geomicrobiology, environmental microbiology, mycology, or space life sciences, and

  • Offer good visibility for interdisciplinary, early-career research.

If you know of specific journals, upcoming conferences (with submission deadlines), or useful contacts/sections (e.g., student poster sessions, early-career tracks, or travel grants), please share them here. I am open to virtual presentations if travel support is not available.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Keerthana

Not sure where you’re based but EANA usually accepts things like that

Apologies for my slow reply. I think ASGSR still has late breaking poster submissions open for this year: ASGSR 2025 Call for Abstracts Released – ASGSR

For journals, it would likely take some more work to get it in shape for a journal like Fungal Biology, Astrobiology, or what not. I often encourage undergraduates in my lab that might not be there yet, to look at publishing in their state’s Transactions of their Academy of Science. I don’t know where you are based but perhaps there is something like this where you are?

Dear Ben,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response and for pointing me toward ASGSR’s late breaking poster submissions. I’ll definitely look into that opportunity. I also appreciate your guidance on potential journals such as “Fungal Biology and Astrobiology” and your suggestion about state level academy of science publications. That’s a very practical idea, and I’ll explore whether there are similar opportunities available here in Sri Lanka.

Your advice is really helpful as I consider the best path forward for this work, and I’m grateful for your encouragement.

Best regards,

Keerthana
