Here is my essay for the Astera Institute essay contest for 2026. The topic I chose is highly relevant for space biology because microgravity affects males vs. females differently, and astronauts’ physiology is very different from the average civilian’s. This means we need to send civilians on short-term studies into the upper atmosphere to start collecting data that is relevant to civilians.
