If you’re interested in space health, synthetic biology, and biomanufacturing for long-duration exploration, I’d like to invite you to Week 2 of the EUSynBioS Space Festival: Shield & Build – Deep Space Health & Off-World Manufacturing.
This week’s sessions will explore some of the key challenges for sustainable human exploration beyond Earth, including:
Engineering Under Constraint – with Miguel J. S. Ferreira (Space Applications Services), discussing how commercial spaceflight is accelerating biotechnology research and enabling faster access to the ISS.
The Radiation Shield – with Prof. Christine E. Hellweg (DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine), covering the biological effects of cosmic radiation and implications for future exploration missions.
We’ll also host a panel on Deep Space Horizons: Roadmapping Space Health & Biomanufacturing, featuring Emily Aurand (Engineering Biology Research Consortium), Rosa Santomartino (Cornell University), Miguel Jimenez (Boston University), and Nils Averesch (University of Florida). The discussion will focus on research priorities, engineering biology, and the technologies needed to enable sustainable human presence beyond Earth.
