Astrobotany Scale Sticker

Checking in to see if anyone is currently using this sticker that @dr.richard.barker , @gilcauthorn , @lvbauer and team put together with me during my days as a postdoc at KSC.

I noticed that the abstract due date for the AWG Annual Meeting is approaching. Would it be worthwhile to come together to talk about uses for this color scale? And chat about the different ways we can process images using the scale?

Who all has been using it? Want to chime in here? Maybe this can be a topic for an upcoming Plant AWG meeting?

I heard through the grapevine that @tagami used this for one of their education projects?

And it was included in some Growing Beyond Earth work?

And maybe it was used by @wyatts , @borjabarbero, and @ec001221 for APEX-12?

Lucia White, George Pantalos, Gary Stutte, @gilcauthorn and I used it with the plants for a recent series of parabolic flights.

My 12 year old has been using it to image radish leaves for a little science project.

Chime in!

Want some? You can buy them on the Astrobotany website for cheap - basically the cost of printing. https://astrobotany.com/product/airi-bio-imaging-spectrum-5cm/f

Yes!! we used it in Apex-12 .

I agree… we can create a presentation or brainstorm some ideas about image analysis

I know that Lucas wrote this tutorial to help people use the SOAPP software to help detect the astrobotany calibration sticker and use it to help normalize and measure images. I also believe that OSDR have access to the source code and may intergrate it into something… soapp-tutorial/soapp-guide.md at main · lvbauer/soapp-tutorial · GitHub

I have been using this sticker for some of our ground experiments in Controlled Env Agriculture (helping a colleague). We built a room-sized gantry system (4 x 3 meters) for high throughput data collection. Currently, we try to detect drought conditions for cotton plants (not yet space-related, but we are getting there!) Loving these

It was used for ExoLab-11. @gilcauthorn will be publishing a paper for IAC 2025 with the results. GeneLab now has all imaging and data from that mission which will be publicly available after Gil’s presentation.

I just got word from Dr. George Pantalos at the University of Louisville School of Medicine that he’s using the scale stickers with his work!

He’s the first person I have heard of that is using them for human-focused research. He spent some time helping out with plant experiments and decided to keep using the scale stickers with his work.

Check out this photos that he invited me to share with the group.

Here’s a link to his faculty page of you want to get in touch.

I was interested in getting some of these stickers, but they are out of stock on the site. Do you know if they are likely to be available soon? Many thanks.

Hi Lindsay

AstroBotany is restructuring and will find a new way to make the sticker available. We’ve primarily been giving them away. I’ll get back to you once we resolved the bottle neck…

Best wishes, Richard

I am grateful for these stickers! Students around the world can calibrate their experiments against each other.

Tried using SOAPP today, but ran into some difficulties with the docker. Any advice on getting it to work? I’m on a PC.

That’s fascinating!

That lab is at Purdue… i guess i’m gonna have to reach out and take them some calibration stickers

I always used to run it in a liunx environment through a tools called gitpod, unfortunately that service has evolved into a new pay for use AI service. So i’m also looking for a better / new way to load it.
