Happy new year AWG! Welcome back.
I suggest you scroll below to check out our semi-automated summary of 2025 here on the Forum-Space.
In my opinion, the post started by @marie.mortreux was the post of the year (some wonderful success stories and touching responses on the impact of our AWG community/OSDR-GL data): Appreciation thread for GL, OSDR teams and the AWG, followed by the ~2017 NASA GeneLab video, which fills me with confidence and pride in our community, the science, and the future.
Key Resource: Read the updated AWG About page for ALL quick links to OSDR, GeneLab, tools, trainings, APIs, and resources. In my opinion, this is our most important link to share with anyone anywhere (it also has answers how to join).

Congrats @mattias.neset, cheers @komarova and all involved. Good luck finishing the PhD, Mattias.
Exosome Sub-group (Multi-Omics AWG): Kudos to @kykamal and Abdelraouf Omar. Watch his great talk at the 2025 Annual Symposium (full event: recordings page). (Details)
Brain AWG: There is tremendous activity with projects on viral reactivation, spaceflight brain senescence accumulation, Alzheimerās & Parkinsonās disease risks, hydrocephalus, and tunneling nanotubes/communication. Cheers to @windymc and @nilufarali for leading that community.
Microbes AWG-Plant AWG Collaboration: Review manuscript is getting closer for submission: āCharting the path forward for plant-microbe systems in space.ā Cheers @ben.sikes, @anna.lewkowicz, @eszter.sas, @nicholas.brereton, @nidiatrovao, @LindsayW and all! (Details)
Recent Publications
Paola Castano: Understanding the āspaceflight treatmentā in plant space biology: Experimental practices, metadata workflows, and data re-analysis. @PCastano also produced this report (Feb '25) from her AWG survey.
Evolution Sub-group (Animal AWG): @fumimuratani, @agata.rudolf & @alexa.sadier published: Evolution in space: experimental pathways to understanding lifeās adaptability beyond Earth (details). Well done!! Iāve heard a good bit of positive feedback, itās a great enticing read.
Miguel Angel Vargas Cruz: @angel Cheers on the new preprint! Architecture of Sintered-Regolith Lunar Polar Microhabitats for Biofilm Research
Ongoing Projects
Proteomic Pipeline Sub-group (Multi-Omics AWG): @asaravia continues quite actively with @joel.steele @hosseinvk Hossein Fazelinia @spruce @terry.lim and all subgroup members for a draft pipeline working with OSDRās Data Processing team, and are about to begin testing on OSDR datasets. (Details)
NBISC100 sub-group (Animal AWG): @asaravia continues coordinating, along with work with @kuppala @ccnaney @saclayton @nicholas.brereton @emmanuel.gonzalez @keith.siew and all other sub-group members on comparing mRNA (UPX and mRNA kits) and ribodepletion methods. (Details)
