Volunteer opportunity to judge GeneLab for High School 2025 Capstone projects

Dear AWG members

We hope this message finds you well! We’re excited to invite you to volunteer as a judge for approximately 1 hour during the GeneLab for High Schools 2025 Capstone Showcase, where talented student teams will present their projects in a day-long virtual symposium. We ask only that you are currently pursuing or have already completed a graduate-level degree.

Event Details:

  • Date: Saturday, September 6, 2025

  • Time: 8am-4pm (PT)/11am-7pm (ET)

  • Format: Virtual (via Microsoft Teams, link to be provided)

  • Role: Evaluate student presentations and provide constructive feedback

Please RSVP by entering your name in an available time slot in the GL4HS volunteer sign-up sheet. Let us know if you have any questions!

All volunteers will receive a copy of the rubric that will be used for evaluating the students’ work as well a judging form to capture your evaluations. Your expertise would be invaluable in inspiring and guiding these young innovators. The time commitment is approximately one hour, and no prior judging experience is required—just a passion for supporting student learning.

Thank you all again for stepping up and helping out. If they haven’t already, the organizers will reach out with the evaluation criteria.

These kids have put a lot of time and effort into their projects this summer. I hope you enjoy and learn and get inspired by their research proposals.
