We haven’t covered too much yet, so you’re coming in at a good time.
For next steps, I’d start by looking through the lit review doc (linked in the forum) to get familiar with some of the key papers we’ll be building off of. I’ll be sharing more info/steps during the meeting as well.
Also, I didn’t record the last meeting, but if needed, I’ll be recording future meetings so that everyone is caught up :))

@KBerg this is the New Plant Chamber focus group i mentioned during our conversation about microRNAs induce by spaceflight; we see some stress related microRNA patterns in some of the missions, so i wonder if this is universal or more likely what are the hardware specific microRNA patterns and what do they tell us about the different hardware groups? Quick announcement going forward: the subgroup will be going on a short break until May 25th. This mostly has to do with the upcoming exam season. I’ll still be active on the forum, just no meetings for the time being.
However, when we come back, we’ll be diving into analysis and reconnecting with some literature review. Looking forward to continuing the work with everyone then!

Hi everyone!
With the AGU abstract submission deadline coming up, I wanted to share a quick overview of our Plant Growth Chamber subgroup project and ask for your participation.
Our project aims to better understand how growth chamber hardware influences plant transcriptomic responses in spaceflight by comparing gene expression across different growth chamber designs. Specifically, we’re investigating whether sealed chamber environments (such as EMCS) introduce physiological responses related to hypoxia, elevated CO₂, humidity, or ROS that may confound the effects typically attributed to microgravity. By comparing datasets collected in sealed and ambient growth systems, we hope to identify chamber-specific responses and distinguish them from external, spaceflight responses.
Over the past several months, we’ve been reviewing the literature, selecting and harmonizing relevant datasets—OSD-120, OSD-314, and OSD-678—comparing metadata, and developing our data analysis strategy. Our current focus is differential expression analysis, pathway analysis, and cross-dataset comparisons. These results will help guide recommendations for future plant spaceflight experiments and improve interpretation of existing transcriptomic datasets.
In our next meeting, I’m hoping to review and edit the draft of the AGU abstract that I’m currently working on, as well as the results of our analysis.
