Hi everyone! My name is Riyam Ojaimi. I’m a Health Sciences Honours Bachelor’s undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, where I’m currently conducting research in space medicine with a focus on brain metabolism and human health in microgravity.

My research background began in high school in Sweden with astrophysics, where a friend and I discovered and characterized a Sun-like candidate star. I now serve as a student representative for the Canadian Society of Aerospace Medicine and am deeply involved in both the research and community aspects of the field.

I’m also the founder and CEO of Space Point Publications Ltd, a global space education platform where I lead science communication, outreach, and research initiatives - including on social media. I’m passionate about making space more accessible and have even had the opportunity to speak about space medicine on live national news.

Excited to be here and to learn from and collaborate with you all!

Hello everyone! My name is Jose Quintero-Frias, currently stationed in Santo Domingo, DR. I have a BS in Computer Science with a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence and Genetic Algorithms (which I admit I need to re-learn almost in a yearly basis due to the continuous advancements in the subject). I’ve worked with IT consulting, systems audit and cybersecurity since the 90s; I also have collaborated in several Zooniverse space projects and earned a certificate in Space System Engineering (SSE) sponsored by NASA in 2018. In a personal note, I’m collaborator and volunteer by nature! I’ve volunteered as First Responder, both civilian and military (I’m a retired/reserve E-5 Army member), as stadium staff in FIFA tournaments, as language teacher coordinator in NGOs… If I can help in something, I’ll surely will try to lend a hand. Anyways, I’m so glad to be here with all of you, fellow collaborators!

Hello everyone. I’m Nikk. I am currently enrolled in full stack web development courses and also soon starting back to actual college courses to get my Bachelor’s degree in Space Studies with concentration in Aerospace. I have always loved science and space, and have admired NASA since childhood. I am new to this kind of thing, so please bare with me if I’m a tad shy at first. But I am very excited to be here and look forward to learning and contributing the best I can.

Welcome Nikk :rocket::100: I also was a gigantic fan. When I started my internship in 2014, I was so nervous, I forgot how doors worked. When I tried to open the door to the front on the building, it wouldn’t open, and I thought the door must have some sort of other security measure. I called my PI on his cell, “to let me in out front”

Turns out there was a button, directly next to the door handle. I was geeking out hard  Right there with ya. Cheers :tada:

Hello everyone, I’m Gabin! I hold an engineering degree in statistical modeling and an MSc in public health, both obtained in France. I’m currently completing a PhD in Finland, where I focus on combining multi-omics with twin study designs to investigate population health; I expect to finish in a few months.

Although I do not have expertise in space research, the topics explored here are original and exciting, and in some ways connect to my own research more aligned with personalized medicine for public health purposes. So, I’m keen to contribute to projects that offer opportunities to learn and grow, and expand my research horizons. I’m particularly interested in multi-omics projects, preferably involving humans, and I’m open to get back to machine learning if needed.

Welcome @gdrouard — make sure to attend the Multi-Omics AWG on May 21 @jessicadurbano can help on that

You’ll see the meeting invite on your calendar: Open Science Data Repository Analysis Working Groups

Also ping @windymc to get involved in the Alz group. I know they always are looking for people with omics bioinformatic expertise

Cheers and welcome :tada::100::rocket:

Hello, my name is Gaston Dana, also GasMan.
My specialties are programming mainly Python, some Java, and a sprinkle of JS. I’m in my 8th year working with Python specifically with projects, personal projects, and events as well. I attended the American Public University System, where I not only improved my academia but I also improved my ability to remote work properly & effectively. I actually prefer remote work now. My other portion of my background is in gaming/video game design/esports events, content creation, and I’ve been gravitating more lately toward AI, cybersecurity, and space studies.
I’m open to getting more comfortable here and with this group.
Do reach out to me, and I’ll see where I can plug in my efforts here properly.
Thx!

Hi all, I’ll add a quick intro for myself as well. My name is Charles Houseman and I’m a support scientist with the GeneLab Sample Processing Lab. I’m not sure if any of the other SPL members are active on here as well so you may know about us already. We are the wetlab that generates a lot of the omics data that is available through OSDR. We process a wide variety of sample types from spaceflight or spaceflight analogous projects. My background is in microbiology with the past 5 or 6 years focusing on next generation sequencing, mostly with Illumina platforms and some nanopore work. I have worked with GeneLab for several years and spent time working at a high-throughput sequencing core in industry.

I’m hoping I can learn a lot and provide insight on things like sample handling, extraction, library prep, and sequencing! If you have any questions or topics to discuss feel free to reach out.

Hi everyone, my name is Jasmine! I hold an MSc in Cellular and Molecular Medicine with a specialization in Bioinformatics from the University of Ottawa, where my research focused on RNA-Seq analysis and transcriptional profiling of placental pathologies in pregnancy, doing differential expression analysis, PCA refinement and outlier detection. Currently, I work as a Digital Data Analyst for an AdTech firm, where I analyze large datasets, segment populations, and build real-time dashboards for clients. I’m especially interested in contributing to projects in multi-omics and women’s health, where I hope to apply and grow my skills in data science and using it to gleam biological insight. I’m really looking forward to collaborating with and learning from all of you!

Hi everyone, I’m Jocelyn, a high school student from River Valley High School, Singapore. Although I’m still young, I strongly believe that my passion and determination to learn—driven by an endless curiosity about space—enable me to contribute meaningfully to AWG as well. I have interests in a lot of aspects, i.e. genetics, neuroscience, aerospace engineering, AI and a lot more. I’m currently a student researcher working on AI models for detecting defects in metal additive manufacturing, in collaboration with a professor from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). I’m truly excited to be actively involved in this community. Thank you!
