So nice to meet the person behind the data available through OSDR. Welcome Charles! ![]()
Hi! I am Kainaat Yousaf. I am going to graduate at 30th june 2025. I am pursuing BS Mathematics from University of the Punjab, Pakistan. I will pursue masters in Data Science. I have joined this community to learn practical applications. I don’t know how to use this platform and what will be relevant and helpful for my future. So guide me.
Hello! I am Elise Jakel, and I am new to to the OSDR AWG. I decided to join so I could get started on working in the area of space biosciences and get into bioastronautics. I am going into my third year of undergrad in Biomedical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. I have a very specific interest in bioastronautics and space medicine to pursue at CU Boulder for grad school. I am glad to join a group of like minded people to discuss and work with on projects.
More specifically I have been researching a potential project of my own I hope to pursue. I have been looking into using Deinococcus Radiodurans as a biofilm to make an engineered living material that could be very radiation resistant and potentially help with radiation protection. Lots of research needs to be done on the topic so I hope to pursue this!
I have been interested in working on NASA citizen science projects for a while and came across this group and was very excited to have the opportunity to get connected this way. I think it is very important to have people from all kinds of backgrounds all over the world to be able to contribute to science. This space really fosters this! I am very excited to be here and ready to get started.
Hi everyone! My name is Sophia and I am excited to join and collaborate with you all.
I’m currently a junior at the University of South Florida deeply interested in neuroscience, especially processes underlying neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. I’ve had the opportunity to work on biomedical-related research posters and manuscripts, so I really enjoy collecting and communicating data.
I have a deep admiration for astronomy but it was not always accessible to me, so in college I took a cosmology course and everything clicked. I read literature on topics like astrochemistry and more. I try to find ways to engage with others online and become more involved, which is why I was drawn to the AWG forums. I am eager to learn more from everyone and contribute !
Hi everyone!
My name is Imane Ennaji, and I’m currently a health sciences student living in Montréal. I’m passionate about aerospace medicine and fascinated by how human physiology adapts to extreme environments such as microgravity and high-altitude flights. Although I’m not yet in university, I’m eager to contribute to research and gain experience through hands-on projects. In addition, I recently launched an initiative called MedVenture, which introduces students to diverse careers in health sciences through guest talks, workshops, and community engagement.
Since there aren’t many opportunities available for students to explore aerospace health early on in my area, I believe that participating in projects is an incredible way for me to get involved. I’m always looking to connect with others who share an interest in aerospace and human health, and I’m excited to learn from all of you!
Hello!
My name is Nikki, and I’m excited to learn from and collaborate with you all. I studied Mathematics of Computation at UCLA and am passionate about AI, software engineering, and working with data in meaningful ways.
I’ve always had a strong interest in space and space-related data, and I’m curious about the opportunities that might come from working with it in the future. Looking forward to learning, growing, and collaborating alongside this community!
Hello everyone, my name is Karmjeet Chauhan from India. I recently joined as a NASA Citizen Scientist in the AI/ML AWG. My background is in full-stack web development, and I have skills in Python, JavaScript, and data handling.
I am still new to AI/ML but very eager to learn and contribute to projects, especially in areas such as data cleaning, visualization, or basic coding tasks. I see this group as a great opportunity to expand my knowledge while supporting meaningful research in space biology.
Looking forward to collaborating, learning from you all, and gradually taking part in projects.
Heyy everyone!!
My name is Yathu Krishna Y K, and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s in Biotechnology with minors in Biochemistry and Microbiology at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. I’ve been lucky to get involved in a bunch of interdisciplinary projects, ranging from microbial isolation in high-radiation environments and cancer genomics to computational modeling of viral entry, gene regulation, and CRISPR/Cas9 design strategies. Along the way, I’ve also published a few preprints (available through Europe PubMed Central) on topics like systems biology, microbial metabolites, and computational drug discovery. Right now, I’m also working with my mentors on developing a biosensor for early detection of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, which ties into my interest in the translational side of biotechnology.
I’m truly enthusiastic about the intersection of biology, computation, and space research, and I feel grateful for the chance to be part of AWGs like Microbes, Multi-omics, AI/ML, Plant, Animal, and Female Repro. I’m here to learn as much as I can from all of you, contribute in any way possible, and be inspired by the amazing work happening in this community. It’s truly a pleasure to meet you all!!!
Welcome @KarmjeetChauhan and welcome @Yathu
Make sure to reach out to the AWG leads and check your ‘CHAT’ for important new member info
Make sure to finish your profile with picture, full name, your professional/school affiliation (in ‘about me’), etc. (Click top right person icon → person icon again → preferences → and then both ‘account’ [for picture] or ‘profile’ for [for about me])
Also, this works best on browser, but easiest via the DiscourseHub phone app (1/3rd of all AWG members use the phone app to chat; you can edit notifications): Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.discourse&hl=en_IN) and iOS (Discourse Hub on the App Store)
I’m Ryan
profile and GS your point-of-contact for questions as you become familiar with our AWG ‘Forum-Space’. To start orientation, first visit our “About” page which is quite important, with a lot of useful quick links: About - Open Science Data Repository Analysis Working Groups
There are 11 AWGs. Next, check which ones you are part of (Plant AWG? AI/ML AWG? Hardware AWG? Microbes AWG? Multi-Omics AWG? etc…) Each AWG meets once per month. It is very important you attend that monthly meeting which you’d like to be active in. You can find which one you belong to in the AWG Group Member Hub, and depending which AWGs you belong to, you can find events in the Calendar
As part of this reach out to the Lead (sometimes referred to as Chair) of that AWG to get involved. Reach out via chat (like this message) or by email. In your message to them, mention you are a new AWG member and want to attend the next meeting, introduce yourself, get involved. These are really their meetings, and each AWG is its own community.

To learn more about the data, the tools, the resources, and this AWG ‘open science for life in space’ ecosystem, here is a VERY useful pub to read: https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkae1116
Here is a master table, with all AWGs and sub-group proejcts outlined and linked - its a great place to find all the topical threads, add comments, ask questions, say you’d like to join projects here, etc
For more, there are synced up YouTube vidoes here from an AWG all-hands event in March 2025. The post… AWG overview… AWG subroups.
There also in an AWG Charter which we except all AWG members to read and know. It also includes a section with an example on how to recognize your AWG membership publicly.
