We have been working on a very exciting project that investigates mitochondrial dysfunction in both spaceflight and Alzheimer’s Disease, specifically regarding the production of ROS and OxPhos abnormalities. We are using Drosophila Melanogaster (fruit flies) as our model organism to observe how spaceflight (specifically microgravity and radiation) affect mitochondria, and how that compares with Alzheimer’s Disease pathology.
As we grow closer to writing and submitting our manuscript, we are interested in recruiting more members in helping out. We currently need assistance with:

I have a strong interest in R programming and data analysis, and I would love to contribute to the project by helping with data processing, analysis, and interpretation (such as heat maps, volcano plots, and related analyses). This would also be a great learning opportunity for me, and I am very motivated to support the team as you move toward manuscript submission.

I am interested in the mitochondria study. I am happy that my research assistant, Jelard, has joined the working group and started to produce preliminary data. We have been working on a project involving long-read RNA-seq in AD for several months, and found some interesting results in mitochondria, and would love to share them with you. Hope to see more collaborations.

Hi there Marian, I’m interested in contributing a focused Kaggle-based research analysis to the subgroup. My work centers on building reproducible scientific datasets and notebooks that turn a clearly defined question into transparent analysis, visualizations, and documented findings.
For this project, I could take on a specific approved question or dataset related to mitochondrial dysfunction, ROS, OxPhos, spaceflight, or Alzheimer’s comparisons, and develop a public-facing research notebook with clear methods, figures, and interpretation.
If there is a discrete analysis priority where this format would be useful, I’d be glad to discuss it.

At this point, though, we’ve already completed the data processing and analysis phase and are currently in the manuscript-writing stage, so we don’t have any additional analysis priorities at the moment. We’re also pretty far along with our current team, so I don’t want to bring you onto the project without having a meaningful role for you.
That said, once we have a manuscript draft together, I’d be happy to share it with you if you’d be interested in taking a look and providing any feedback from your perspective. I really appreciate you reaching out, and your work sounds really cool!
