UK Space Life and Biomedical Sciences Association - Early Career questionnarie

Hi everyone,

As well as Co-Lead of the Microbes AWG Biofilms subgroup, I’m also the Coordinator for the UK Space Life and Biomedical Sciences Association (UK Space LABS).

UK Space LABS is currently undertaking a number of activities to increase the Space Life Sciences field in the UK, one of which is increasing support available for Early Career Researchers. Members of the Executive Committee who are leading on this have created a couple of surveys for feedback from UK-based ECRs. I’d like to invite any UK ECRs here to contribute their experiences and opinions via these surveys. I have copied UK Space LABS’ LinkedIn post below which has further details and the links to the surveys.

If you want to find out more about UK Space LABS, the LinkedIn page is here: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13616507/

We’re currently in the process of developing our new website, so all communication with the community is going via our LinkedIn page at the moment. The new website should be online in the next few weeks, and I’ll post it here.

All the best,

Katherine

Help us to help you!

The Executive Committee at UK Space LABS are working tirelessly on a new set of strategic goals and objectives to cater to and serve our purpose as effectively as possible. One of our current objectives is to provide and advertise valuable opportunities for early career professionals to gain experience to support their professional development in the field. Before we can provide you with such support, its essential that we understand what these support requirements are, and which gaps we can help to fill. We’d therefore be really keen to hear from all of you via a short (no more than 2 minutes) survey so that you can help us shape your future development opportunities. Please have your survey submitted by no later than COB Friday 31st October, 2025.

If you are currently an Early Career professional working within the Space LABS field, please kindly complete this survey: https://lnkd.in/e-tdkDcQ.

If you are currently an Early Career Professional working outside of the Space LABS field with an appetite to enter the field, please kindly complete this survey: https://lnkd.in/eUmaYzaH.

Please drop us a message if you need any support or assistance!

Hello @katherine.j.baxter ,

Hope you’re doing well.

Thank you for sharing this opportunity and for the continued support for Early Career Researchers.

I recently completed my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology, with a specialization in Molecular Biology (graduated with Second Class Upper). I am very interested in pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in areas such as Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or Computational Biology, and I also have independent research ideas that I would like to develop further.

As an aspiring Early Career Researcher, I would be grateful for any guidance, resources, or information on potential graduate study opportunities, fellowships, or mentorship pathways particularly within international collaborations or programs that align with space life sciences and open science initiatives.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Best regards,
Keerthana Gunaretnam
